Day Wise Itinerary

  • DAY 1

    ARRIVE IN DURBAN (DINNER)

    Upon arrival at King Shaka International Airport meet & greet by our representative. Transfer to your pre-booked hotel. Check in, freshen up and relax. Later visit Ushaka Marine World, which is the biggest marine theme park in Africa. The park covers more than 15 hectares along the Golden Mile and features 5 district zones - including one with water slides and pools and even a recreated 1920’s shipwreck. There are exhibits with both fresh and salt water.

    You will then visit Gateway theatre of Shopping, the ultimate retail and entertainment destination. Enjoy a meal at a restaurant at Gateway. Shopping Centre. Return to hotel.

  • DAY 2

    DURBAN - CITY TOUR / PHEZULU CULTURAL VILLAGE (BREAKFAST/DINNER)

    After breakfast proceed on a City Tour of Durban. Durban is an intriguing blend of East, West and Africa, which with its endless summer climate, effervescent and lukewarm ocean lined with golden beaches, offers a subtropical carnival atmosphere all year round. Visit the City Hall, see the 8th largest harbour of the world seeing the sugar terminal and warehouses, Natal University, African and Indian markets, continue the trip to see the famous Durban botanical gardens, and a visit to the Moses Mabhida Stadium.

    Later depart for Valley of a Thousand Hills. The Valley of 1000 Hills is named after the many hills, cliffs and valleys which rise from the banks of the Umgeni River as it flows from the distant Drakensberg mountains to the Indian Ocean. The diverse area combines the luxury of laid-back country living with an ancient, indigenous culture on its doorstep. The valley has been home to the Zulu people for centuries, with many continuing to practice and live their unique traditional lifestyle.

    You will then visit Phezulu Cultural Village - a traditional Zulu Village overlooking the Valley of 1000 Hills. The famous Gasa clan entertains visitors with their dance routine 4 times daily.     Return to hotel.

  • DAY 3

    DURBAN - HLUHLUWE (BREAKFAST/DINNER)

    After breakfast depart for Hluluwe. Check in at your pre-booked lodge. Later depart for an afternoon game drive in Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park, which is the oldest proclaimed nature reserve in Africa. It is known for its rich wildlife and conservation efforts and is home to Africa’s Big Five: Elephant, Rhinoceros, Lion, Leopard and Buffalo. Return to lodge and proceed for dinner.

  • DAY 4

    HLULUWE – ST LUCIA – MIDLANDS (BREAKFAST/DINNER)

    After breakfast check out of the lodge. Proceed to St Lucia as you embark on a boat cruise. St Lucia, located in the iSimangaliso Wetland Park, South Africa’s first World Heritage Site. It also has the largest population of Hippos in South Africa.

    Discover, witness and observe Hippo’s, Crocodiles and many bird species on the cruise. The 2 hour Boat Cruise gets you close up to the residents of the estuary. After the cruise depart for the Midlands. Arrive in Pietermaritzburg and check in to your pre-booked hotel. Dinner at restaurant

  • DAY 5

    MIDLANDS - FREEDOM ROUTE TOUR (BREAKFAST/DINNER)

    After breakfast proceed on the Freedom Route Tour. Follow Mandela and Gandhi’s footsteps in the City of Choice. Drive under the Comrades Gantry, past a majestic City Hall, breathtaking Tatham Art Gallery and imposing Gandhi Statue (unveiled Sun 7 June 1993 by Archbishop Desmond Tutu marking 100 years since Gandhi was thrown from the train). Next stop Pietermaritzburg Railway Station with the recently opened established Gandhi Museum and double-sided unveiled bust of Gandhi (Thurs 7 June 2018). Historically, Pietermaritzburg Railway Station is infamous for being the location, where Gandhi was thrown off the train for occupying 1st class seat on a passenger train bound for Pretoria.

    Visit the Old Prison (Project Gateway) for a tour at the museum. It is by far the oldest prison, dating back to the Voortrekker Times, covering 150 years of history including colonial times. You will then visit the Arya Samaj Manaye Hall in iMbali. This venue of Mandela’s last public address as a free man, was host to “All-in-One Africa Conference” (Sat 25- Sun 26 March 1961) where Mandela delivered the keynote address to over 1400 delegates in attendance, representing 145 different social and political parties throughout Africa, and the dawning of South African Democracy.

    Your last visit will be the Nelson Mandela Capture Site. On a quiet Sunday afternoon (Sun 5 Aug 1962) Nelson Mandela, disguised himself as the chauffeur of a friend, Mr Cecile Williams, on the old main to Johannesburg, but was captured outside Howick.

    Return to your hotel late in the afternoon. Freshen up and proceed for dinner.

  • DAY 6

    AIRPORT TRANSFER (BREAKFAST)

    After breakfast check out of hotel. Transfer to King Shaka International Airport for your onward flight!
